The 2026 season presents a new chapter for Northport who enter the LILJ top 26 preseason rankings at number five, but the Tigers once again appear poised to remain among Suffolk County’s top teams. Head coach Billy Cordts enters his third year leading the program after serving as the team’s defensive coordinator since 2019, and he inherits a roster that blends experienced seniors with a talented group of rising underclassmen, as the program aims for another berth in the county championship and a shot to be the team representing Suffolk Class A in the Long Island Championship for the first time since 2023.
Northport will need to replace a significant portion of its offensive production from the Class of 2025, including standout attackman Jack Deliberti, who erupted for 103 points (68 goals, 35 assists) before heading to Ohio State. Midfielder Logan Cash (91 points) was another major catalyst, dishing out 58 assists while scoring 33 goals. The Tigers also graduate key contributors such as Gavin Stabile, who anchored the cage with 173 saves and a 59.6% save percentage, along with Dylan Baumgarth, Cameron Foley, and several experienced role players who helped the program maintain its high standard.
Despite those departures, Northport returns an impressive core led by a strong senior class. Senior midfielder Greyson Cabrera (Richmond) is coming off a standout season with 63 points, including 47 goals, and is expected to be one of the team’s primary offensive leaders. Attackman Gavin O’Brien (Rutgers) in the junior class also returns after a tremendous year in which he tallied 76 points (41 goals, 35 assists), while senior Luke Loiacono (Marist) adds another scoring threat after posting 39 points. Attackman Shamus Burke (Geneseo) contributes additional firepower with 36 points last season. Together, that quartet gives the Tigers a proven offensive nucleus capable of keeping the team’s fast-paced attack rolling and any opposing defense on their heels. Making this offense even more dynamic is the addition of junior Ryder Maag (Bucknell) who transfers back to his hometown from Chaminade.
The defensive unit also feature several experienced returners. Senior defensive midfielder Will DeTolla (Maritime) provides toughness and stability, while Carson Ciaio and Reese Ciaio add important depth and versatility on both sides of the field. In addition, a talented junior class will play a major role in the team’s success. Juniors Jack Trizzino the Holy Cross commit, and Tommy Zarcone each bring high-level ability.
The Tigers will also look to develop new contributors in key areas. Face-off specialist Jack Reiser who is only a freshman is projected to take on a larger role at the X, an area that could be crucial for maintaining possession and fueling Northport’s transition game. With the team’s philosophy centered around speed and unselfish play, strong face-off performance will be a major factor in sustaining offensive pressure.
According to Cordts, the team’s blend of experience and emerging talent is what makes this year’s group particularly exciting. Many of the seniors have been part of teams that reached the county championship throughout their high school careers, and that level of postseason experience brings valuable leadership to a roster still hungry for success.
For Northport to thrive in 2026, the Tigers will emphasize complete team play. Cordts highlighted unselfish offensive execution, strong communication on defense, and consistent transition play as essential components of the team’s identity. With a fast-paced approach built around pushing the tempo for a full 48 minutes, Northport hopes to combine offensive firepower with disciplined defense to stay among Long Island’s elite.
If the returning stars continue to produce and the next wave of contributors steps into larger roles, the Tigers appear well-positioned for another highly competitive season. With experience, depth, and a tradition of success fueling the program, Northport will once again be a true contender in Suffolk County this spring. They open up the season hosting William Floyd to begin league play on March 26th.
