Continuing with the LILJ top 26 preseason rankings it’s the Mount Sinai Mustangs coming in at number 18. After missing the playoffs in 2025 which is unfamiliar in the Sinai community, this is a team that is on the rise not just this year for the year’s to come with a bevy of young guns with upperclassmen mixed in under head coach Shayna Fox who enters her fourth year coaching the program.
After graduating a historic senior class, the Mustangs will lean on strong senior leadership and an exciting wave of young talent as they look to once again establish themselves as one of the premier programs on Long Island. Headlining their returning upperclassmen is captain and Georgetown commit Sophia Masone who paced the offense last spring with 41 goals and 48 points and will again be a focal point of the offense. Fellow captain and Stony Brook commit Olivia Romeo adds versatility and production from the midfield after finishing with 25 points, while Lila Callahan (Hofstra) brings proven scoring ability and balance on the offensive end. In goal, Kathryn Arrington (Saint Leo) returns with valuable varsity experience after seeing significant action in 2025 and totaling 89 saves, anchoring a defense that includes returners Lilianna Graziano and Talyn Summer (Embry Riddle).
Their 2025 graduates included an elite core between Alexa Spallina, Kyla Orlando, and Ava Schirtzer, leaving big shoes to fill both offensively and in leadership. However, the Mustangs are optimistic about the next group stepping forward. Players such as freshman Lainie Friedman and eighth grader Addison Chartrand gained valuable experience a year ago and are expected to take on even larger roles as they establish themselves as household names for the program, while names to also look out for as major impact players are sophomores Raegan Chamberlain and Delaney Ramos, and eighth graders Ava Ciofrone, Gabby Surdi and Avery Pescatore.
The Mustangs have already given a preview of what they could have in store in the spring with their strong play in the LILJ winter league going 5-1 against very competitive teams where much of their young talent got extended reps for the first time on varsity and all thrived.
Opening up the regular season is their first league contest against Kings Park on 3/26. With a fast, athletic midfield and captains setting the tone, Mount Sinai’s success in 2026 will hinge on developing its younger contributors while leaning on experienced leaders in key moments. If that balance clicks, the Mustangs have the depth, speed, and talent to compete at a high level this spring where they will certainly be in the mix for the Class C playoffs come May.
