Landing at number 22 in the LILJ top 25 preseason rankings is Syosset of Nassau Class A led by longtime head coach John Calabria who is in his 27th season with the team. Last year the team went 9-9 overall with another trip to the playoffs where they were defeated in the Nassau Semifinals. A team that is always in contention for the county championship, coach Calabria says that the keys to success this season will be team chemistry, training, hard work, sweat and repetition to get to greatness.

Syosset brings back many familiar faces from last season’s team and will be right in the thick of competing to be the top team in the county in Class A. On the offensive end of the field is one of the top players on the island in the 2026 class in attack/middie Brody Waxer who is committed to the University of Michigan. Waxer was second on the team in points last season with 55, scoring 37 goals with 18 assists. They also return senior Josh Chung and juniors Gio Accardo and Ryan Rosenfeld at attack with senior Nick Turner (Geneseo) at midfield. The quartet combined for 93 points last season, as Syosset will look to fill the void left behind by 2024 graduate David Disque who led the team offensively with 93 points. Syosset also adds to their offense junior Josef Saueracker as a transfer from Plainview Old Bethpage. Looking to get the ball to their offense from the face-off X will be junior Aidan Cleary, winning 71% of face-offs last year in a small sample size with a total of 39 wins as he replaces 2024 graduate Owen Azevedo. Syosset’s defense is led by their senior Lehigh commit Will Cawley and senior Evan Ostranger with sophomore Jeremy Mallen also a key part of their defense which allowed 9.5 goals per game last year. In the cage will be junior goalie Josh Weisenfeld (LIU) who tallied 142 saves his sophomore year which was the 11th most in all of Nassau County. The season opener for Syosset will be on March 26th in a non-league matchup against Smithtown East followed by another non-league matchup on March 28th against Sachem North. Their first game in the power conference is April 1st when they take on Garden City.
