The midfield crop on Long Island in the Class of 2027 is nothing short of spectacular. The amount of talent at this position runs deep and it showed over the past year both on the school level and on the club circuit. With September 1st just a few days away, it’s not long before many will be making their commitment on where they will be playing at the collegiate level for the next four years. Highlighted below are ten Long Island middies that have made their mark throughout the spring and summer.
Olivia Brady (Bayport Blue Point/YJ Grazidei Stadler)
Brady is undoubtedly a big game player that brings her best when the lights shine brightest. She’s a natural playmaker in so many different areas of the game, whether it’s on offense as a goal scorer, scrapping for ground balls, or taking the ball away on defense. At the high school level she was an instrumental part in Bayport Blue Point winning a second state championship in three years, and certainly impressed this summer at Juniors Open and on the club circuit with Yellow Jackets. This is easily a top 2027 coming off the island.
Natalie Byrns (Massapequa/YJ Grazidei Stadler)
Byrns was an impact player during the high school season for the county champion Massapequa Chiefs. Offensively she is great off ball knowing how to free herself with sharp cuts to the cage to create scoring opportunities. On the draw she’s very skilled at winning draws to herself and will also come up with possessions when battling on the circle. The way she impacts games is just as noticeable on the defensive end with her on-ball pressure defensively and her ability to force turnovers. Anytime she’s on the field she’s certain to have a hand in winning plays.
Maddy Herr (Shoreham Wading River/YJ Grazidei Stadler)
Herr has that “it” factor that makes her a dream recruit for any college coach. She has the full arsenal in her game including athleticism, elite speed, and IQ. With a quick first step this makes her such a dangerous dodger when she has the rock. This is definitely a player that coaches have to game plan for and she’s been a top player for Shoreham-Wading River. This summer Herr shined for the Yellow Jackets on the club circuit and was a standout player at Juniors Open, making her a highly sought after recruit this fall.
Olivia LoGiudice (Massapequa/LI Empire Green)
LoGiudice out of Massapequa is one that should not be slept on. What makes her such a big asset on the field is her speed as it looks like she can run for days. She’s a player that you absolutely want with the ball in her stick pushing up field in transition, and has the ability to blow by a defense to get to goal. On the circle LoGiudice has shown to be tough and gritty in fighting for ground balls. LoGiudice excelled on the club circuit this summer for Empire at tournaments including Summer Genesis and Apex the Grind.
Melania Moreo (St. Anthony’s/LI Empire Green)
Moreo supplies a diverse arsenal in her game between her stick skills, athleticism, and her ability to change the course of games on the draw circle. At Juniors Open this summer Moreo showed her strengths as a primary draw taker where she was winning the draw at a percentage of over 60%. On the offensive side she plays with patience and poise and is a very skilled finisher especially when she has opportunities inside the 8-meter. She’s very persistent on defense in her pursuit of forcing turnovers showing that she is a true two-way midfielder.
Katelynn Murtha (Eastport South Manor/YJ Grazidei Stadler)
Murtha may fly under the radar to some, but make no mistake this an elite offensive threat with her ability to score in a wide array of ways. Whether it’s low to high, high to low, or stinging corners, she knows how to light up the scoring column. Murtha also takes draws and is sound on defense. For Eastport South Manor Murtha had a great sophomore season as their leading scorer, and was a scoring machine at Summer Genesis for Yellow Jackets.
Jenna Obloj (West Islip/Jesters Black)
The lefty Obloj is a goal-scoring midfielder that is a tough cover especially when she gets downhill as a dodger. Part of what makes her such a threat on the offensive end is her two-handedness with the ball in her stick. Obloj is not only elite at filling up the back of the net, but also on the draw either as the primary draw taker or lined up on the circle. Defensively it is evident that she takes just as much pride on that end of the field in being able to force turnovers and take the ball the other way. She had a tremendous sophomore campaign on varsity for a supremely talented West Islip team, and this summer impressed at tournaments including the LILJ Cub Team Challenge, Summer Genesis and Maryland Cup.
Allie Reasoner (Sacred Heart/Jesters Black)
Reasoner out of Sacred Heart can do it all from the midfield. On the draw circle she has the ability to take over games and is excellent at pushing the pace. She has great vision when operating up top, is two-handed, and when shooting the rock she can be an absolute flame thrower when she gets her hands free. Defensively Reasoner will deliver timely checks to create turnovers which helps ignite transition. Over the summer for Jesters she displayed great play at tournaments including the LILJ Club Team Challenge, Summer Genesis and Maryland Cup.
Reagan Schindler (Westhampton Beach/YJ Gaghan)
The Westhampton Beach native Schindler has a knack for making good things happen both offensively and defensively when she’s on the field. She makes finding the back of the net look easy whether it’s off the dodge or catching and shooting especially inside the 8-meter arch. Throughout the summer Schindler showed her ability to score at a high level at Juniors Open and on the club circuit for Yellow Jackets Gaghan at tournaments including the LILJ Club Team Challenge and Summer Genesis.
Lilly Silveira (Syosset/Top Guns Black)
The Syosset product Silveira excels as a strong dodger from up top, operates very well in the two-man game, and is a playmaker both on the circle and on the defensive end of the field. As a sophomore she put together a big time season for Syosset with over 50 points and in club for Long Island Top Guns Black performed at high level at various tournaments including Summer Genesis and Maryland Cup.
