The Comsewogue Warriors of Suffolk Class B enter at number 16 in the LILJ top 25 preseason rankings. In 2024 they went 11-6 overall which included another year of making the playoffs where their season came to an end in the semifinals against Smithtown West. Leading the charge of this program is longtime coach Pete Mitchell who is in his 27th season as head coach and 34th season overall with the team. He gave his thoughts on what he’s excited about with his roster going into the season. “We have lots of competition at every position with a young team but a lot of really good juniors and sophomores with an experienced senior class. The depth of this team is something I haven’t seen in a long time.”
Comsewogue’s offense returns an upperclassmen group which includes Anthony Marino, and Hunter Marquardt, in the junior class and Doug Anacelli (Siena) and Andrew Krieg (DeSales) in the senior class. This collection of returners will look to account for the absence of 2024 graduates Ryan Meyers, Dylan Rocchio and Brayden Arias their top three leading scorers last season. Adding to their offense this year is Luca Lattanzio who transferred from South Fork and had a 66 point sophomore season with 44 goals and 22 assists. With their returning players now having an even more elevated role this season, look for each of them to have a big season making this a well balanced offense.
Historically Comsewogue has always had a very tough and physical defense making that their calling card. The defense returns long poles Tyler Strohm (Siena) in the senior class, junior Connor Rocchio (Marist) and sophomore Logan McCaffrey to a defense that allowed fewer than seven goals per game in 2024. In the cage they will have a new face as the starter with senior Ryan Schnepf the Farmingdale State commit on the roster looking to step in for 2024 graduate Adam Wachholder the current freshman at Marist.
Coach Mitchell shared with the LILJ what some of his keys will be to the success of the Warriors in 2025.
“Adjusting to the shot clock will change the way we approach the game. I think the ability to play more players is key. Team chemistry and hard work are always keys to success.”
The first game of the regular season will be a league matchup against the Mt. Sinai Mustangs on April 2nd beginning their quest for what they hope is a long season.
