MJBROWN · March 4, 2025 · 2 min read

At number 23 of the LILJ top 25 preseason rankings, we head to Syosset in Nassau County Class A. One of the teams in the power conference, Syosset is a perennial final four team, but will be looking to get back to the county finals for the first time since 2022. They did see some of their key offensive talent graduate last year, but they do return much of their roster which includes some young talent that will continue to be a big part of the program over the next few years.

The offense for Syosset will be headlined by their Michigan bound junior attacker Julie Shaughnessy who exploded for 40 goals as well as 28 assists for a 68 point sophomore season and will be in for another big statistical year in 2025. Adding to their attack is the lefty sophomore Jadyn Stadler, one of the top players on the island in the 2027 class that can both score and facilitate and did so last year with 26 goals and 21 assists for 47 points. Two of their returning midfielders both in the sophomore class that will have an even elevated role this year is Charli Kaplan and Lily Silviera. As freshmen they each saw significant minutes, combining for 33 points with 18 from Kaplan and 15 from Silviera. As a team the offense averaged 12.3 goals per game which was the second most in Nassau County. Also one of their young gun attackers that will also have an increased role this season is freshman Peyton Chuntz who found the back of the net eight times as an eighth grader.

Defensively Syosset returns their senior defender Alexa Baek (Iona) and in the class of 2028 one of their young defenders that will be an impactful player is Briana Laliotis. In goal this year as the starter looks to be senior Lily Brill (UChicago)who in a small sample size tallied 39 saves on the season.

The first official game of the season for Syosset will be a non-league matchup against Commack on March 27th, and their first league game of the season in the power conference is against Massapequa on March 31st.
