Coming in at number 25 in the LILJ top 26 preseason rankings it’s the William Floyd Colonials of Suffolk Class A. Floyd is a perennial playoff team and last year was no different after a 10 win regular season and a top four seed going into the postseason before seeing their season come to an end in the quarterfinals. This year the team heads into the 2026 season with continuity, confidence, and a talented core firmly in place under fourth-year head coach Nicole Alesi, as they aim to take another step forward.
With no key graduates lost from 2025, the Colonials return nearly their entire production, led by an upperclassmen heavy group. Offensively, Emma DiMaio the soon to be Stony Brook Seawolf was the engine last spring as a supreme playmaker, piling up 80 points on 38 goals and 42 assists, while Ava Tiedemann (LIU) struck for 41 goals of her own which led the team. Fellow returners Jayla Pimentel (Pace), Samantha Seaman (Georgian Court), and Rylie Wiegand (LIU) give William Floyd multiple scoring threats and versatility across midfield and attack.
Defensively, the Colonials bring back key pieces including sophomore defender Khloe DiMaio and junior defender Caiden Widecki, while senior Julia Hipperling returns in goal after seeing heavy action with 129 saves a year ago.
This winter Floyd was a participant in the LILJ winter league where they were able to sharpen up for the spring against a number of high level programs across the island. As they embark on the new season they open up with two non-league matchups against Comsewogue on 3/19 and Rocky Point on 3/23 before beginning league play against Longwood on 3/27.
With a deep upperclassmen group gaining experience and a core that has already proven it can produce at a high level, William Floyd enters 2026 poised to take another step forward. If the Colonials can continue to build on their continuity and maximize their returning offensive firepower, they have the makeup of a team ready to make noise this spring.
