Inside of the top 10 of the LILJ preseason rankings we get to the Cold Spring Harbor Seahawks at number 9. They have proven to be the team to beat in Class D, having won three consecutive New York State Championships and this year they will be aiming for four in a row. At the helm of the program is longtime Head Coach Dennis Bonn who is in his 26th season and is one of the most decorated high school coaches with seven state championships. With the start of the season just around the corner, coach Bonn shared a couple keys to their success this year along with his excitement with the element of the shot clock. “The biggest keys will be staying healthy, staying hungry after having won the last three championships. I’m excited about the new shot clock rules, as well as continuing to play a tough schedule.”

Cold Spring Harbor sees the return of a number of upperclassmen in both the junior and senior class. Their leading scorer among their returning players is senior Michigan commit Alex Bauer the attack/middie who scored 24 goals with 9 assists for 33 points. At midfield as well as the face-off X is senior Sam Bruno (Stevens) who scored 12 goals with 7 assists for 19 points and had a team high 47 ground balls last season. Rounding out their returning midfield is juniors Rex O’Connor, Brady McKean (Stony Brook) and Dylan Reilly. The attack will be led by senior Kevin Burns (Stevens) and sophomore Roy Testa, one of the top 2027s on the island. Last year Burns and Testa combined for 50 points with 26 from Burns and 24 from Testa. Defense has always been a calling card for the Seahawks, and last year was no different, as they allowed fewer than seven goals per game as a team. The team returns long poles Cole Newman and Hunter Yulico as part of their defense but are without 2024 graduate Timmy Pisano. In the cage as the starter looks to be sophomore goalie Matty Kammer who split time in the cage last year with 2024 graduate James Greco and recored 59 saves with a 50% save percentage. Adding to their 2027 class as players to look out for this season include Andrew Ioannou and Colby Koenigsberger at midfield and defenseman/face-off specialist Alex Vitale. Their quest for a fourth consecutive state championship begins on March 26th with a non-league matchup against Mepham, followed by their first league game in the power conference against Manhasset on March 31st.
