On Saturday, June 8th, Cold Spring Harbor proved to be the team to beat as they took down South Jefferson 12-5 at SUNY Cortland to win the Class D New York State Championship. After coming up short the previous two years in the state semifinals, the third time proved to be the charm. Their playoff run was one of dominance, defeating Oyster Bay, Carle Place, Babylon, Penn Yan Academy, and South Jefferson on the road to being state champions.

The championship game began as a defensive battle for both teams, but Cold Spring Harbor was first on the board in the first quarter on a free position goal for Jenna Kessler which was the lone goal scored by either team in the first 12 minutes. The second quarter saw both teams finding a bit of rhythm, with Cold Spring Harbor adding two more goals to their tally and South Jefferson responding with two of their own, ending the half at 3-2 in favor of Cold Spring Harbor. The third quarter was where the Seahawks seized control of the game, coming out strong and netting six goals while only allowing one to widen their lead to 9-3 which was more than enough of a cushion. In the fourth Cold Spring Harbor kept their foot on the gas, scoring three more goals while South Jefferson added two, resulting in a final score of 12-5 to claim the title. Defensively they put together a pure masterclass from start to finish fueled by their starting defense of Michelle Coles, Rachel Louie, Mackenzie McGraw and Zoe Soskin with Maya Soskin in the cage. On the offensive end CSH was led by Ryan Reynolds’ three goals and three assists and two goals with two assists from freshman Olivia Mulada. Also adding two goals each was Maggie Spehr, Ruby Spielberger and Jenna Kessler along with one goal and one assist for Kelly Callaghan. Led by Head Coach Danielle Castellane, the Seahawks end the season with an overall record of 17-4 and bring home their first state championship since winning back to back Class C titles in 2018 and 2019.
